JOB SUMMARY

Provides medical documentation for physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs)

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Accurately and thoroughly completes documentation of medical visits and procedures performed by physicians and APPs as they are being performed
  • Completes dictation/faxing/phone calls and clerical tasks as directed by the medical provider.
  • Reviews notes for mistakes and inconsistencies in medical documentation to avoid errors.
  • Oversees appointment bookings and schedules appointments when needed. Maintains timely flow of patients.
  • Greets patients. Screens patients for appropriate information.
  • Assists medical assistant, LPN, or RN in preparation of exam rooms including re-stocking and cleaning of treatment areas.
  • Arranges for patient testing and admissions.
  • Provides information to patients and families regarding health prevention and promotion as directed by medical provider.
  • Schedules appointments for patients.
  • Completes documentation for schools or other entities as needed
  • Completes letters and forms as needed or requested.
  • Attends meetings as required.

Qualifications and education requirements

  • Knowledge of medical procedures and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to input patient information.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work efficiently with physicians, staff, patients, and families
  • Strong computer skills
  • Must demonstrate the ability to be a team player
  • Working knowledge of computerized scheduling systems and general scheduling principles within a primary care clinic setting.
  • Strong organizational and demonstrates the ability to maintain accurate notes and records.
  • Ability to communicate proficiently through technology (email, cell phone, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently, exercise creativity, be attentive to detail, and maintain a positive attitude
  • Ability to manage multiple and simultaneous responsibilities and to prioritize scheduling of work
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, and legal information
  • Ability to complete work assignments accurately and in a timely manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner

Physical and Environmental Conditions

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee will have a combination of standing, sitting, bending and reaching. May work at a computer monitor for prolonged periods.
  • Exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions are possible
  • Position requires reaching, bending, stooping, and handling objects with hands and/or fingers, talking and/or hearing, and seeing.
