Psych Registered Nurse West Unit at Mission Health is responsible for delivering safe, compassionate, and evidence-based psychiatric nursing care to adult and geriatric patients on an inpatient behavioral health unit. Working as part of an interdisciplinary team in the Healthcare & Medical Services department, the RN performs comprehensive psychiatric and medical assessments, develops and implements individualized care plans, and provides therapeutic interventions to support patient stabilization and recovery. The nurse administers and monitors psychotropic and other medications, observes and documents patient responses and behavioral changes, and promptly reports and responds to changes in condition. This role includes leading and participating in treatment team meetings, collaborating closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and other care providers, and actively engaging patients and families in care planning and education. The Psych RN on the West Unit promotes a safe, trauma-informed environment by using de-escalation techniques, maintaining vigilance for suicide and safety risks, following all unit safety protocols, and participating in crisis intervention when needed. Responsibilities also include performing ongoing suicide and risk assessments, implementing appropriate precautions, ensuring accurate and timely electronic documentation, and adhering to all regulatory and hospital policies. The nurse precepts and mentors new staff when appropriate, supports a culture of teamwork, respect, and professional growth, and participates in quality improvement and evidence-based practice initiatives.
